Dr. Monali Misra has joined Marina Weight Loss, bringing extensive experience in bariatric and laparoscopic surgery, as well as in brand-new robotically assisted single-site surgical techniques, to Marina Del Rey in coastal Los Angeles.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Misra is committed to serving Marina Del Rey Hospital’s weight loss patients with superb personal attention and the most modern techniques available. Her enthusiasm for the latest surgical innovations fits perfectly with Marina Del Rey Hospital’s enthusiasm for continuous refinement of procedures and improvement in patient care.
Dr. Misra received her medical degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, near Toronto. She became a faculty member at the university, instructing students in surgery. She also co-founded and administered Canada’s first private full-service surgical weight loss facility.
In Los Angeles, she has a longstanding association with the prestigious Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she has completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery. She has also published several academic articles. Throughout her career, she has performed thousands of bariatric surgeries, including lap band, gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and other procedures.
Dr. Misra is a local pioneer in the STARR Treatment for single-incision laparoscopic surgery. STARR — short for Surgical Tiny Access Rapid Recovery — is a patented array of instruments that are contained in one slim tool, called the SPIDER. Once inserted, SPIDER expands like an umbrella, and all the necessary instruments are deployed. When the surgery is complete, the system folds back up so the surgeon can remove it and close the incision. The system increases the surgeon’s dexterity and visibility compared to laparoscopic instruments of previous generations and reduces patient scarring for improved privacy and faster recovery.
With Dr. Misra on staff, we are excited to usher in a new phase of growth for our practice.
